ICOD Associates LLC celebrated last May 20th, 2016 its 10th anniversary of “customers and associates appreciation outing” in beautiful Durango, Colorado. Participating for ICOD were founder Tony Martin, associates Gene Corbett, & Ron Coia and customers, Jim Lipinski, Dave Schultz, Rick Mullin and Jerry McGinnis. We visited the Mesa Verde National Park which is only 36 miles from Durango CO named World Heritage Site since 1978. In Durango, we rode the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. This railroad was part of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad and build the town of Durango in 1881. Over the next nine months, 45 miles of rail line was built along the Animas River to the mining town of Silverton, through some of the most treacherous areas are inaccessible by road! Originally built to carry gold and silver from the San Juan Mountains to the smelters, the mining industry declined over the years and the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad sought to abandon the line in the 1950’s. However, passengers interested in seeing the majestic beauty of the river, canyons and high mountain peaks became its lifeblood. In private ownership as the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad since 1981, the tracks, coaches, and locomotives are routinely upgraded so passengers can continue to enjoy the sights and sounds of yesteryear on this spectacular journey. The memorable trip was enjoyed by all.
